Xiaomi is getting ready to launch its next flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 13. The phone is expected to hit the market soon and will be the direct successor to the Xiaomi 12. It is said to have many new features and improvements over its predecessor. Here’s everything we know about the upcoming Xiaomi 13, including the release date, specifications and price. So without further ado, let’s get started.

Xiaomi release date 13

  • Xiaomi 13 may be released on December 28, 2022.
Telephones release date
Xiaomi Mi 11 December 28, 2020
Xiaomi 12 December 28, 2021
Xiaomi 13 December 28, 2022 (Expected)

There is no official information yet about the release date of Xiaomi 13. However, we can speculate on the release date based on earlier versions. Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro were released on December 28, 2021. Mi 11 was also released on December 28, 2020. This may mean that we can expect the launch of Xiaomi 13 on the same day. However, this does not seem to be the case this year. Let me explain.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip that will power the Xiaomi 13 is due to be released on November 15, 2022. And usually Xiaomi announces its smartphones right after the launch of the chipset. This means that we can expect the premiere of Xiaomi 13 earlier than usual, most likely by November 2022. However, this premiere will only take place in China. Its introduction to the global and Indian markets will take several months. Since the Xiaomi 12 series was released in March in these regions, we expect the same from Xiaomi 13.

Xiaomi 13 specifications

Xiaomi 13 will come with top-notch specs, including the latest chip, best display, cameras, and more. But before we talk about the specs, let’s take a look at the design.

Design

Last week, the alleged live image of Xiaomi 13 was spotted by Cool APK, revealing its rear design. From what we can see, the Xiaomi 13 has a triple camera setup. The camera module has two sensors arranged on the left side and a third sensor on the top right, with a horizontal LED flash underneath. You can also see that the camera module has LASER branding, which can translate into laser autofocus. The back of the Xiaomi 13 is curved which means no flat sides. You can also see Xiaomi 13 in black with a glossy finish. At the time of the premiere, however, we can expect more color variants.

Display

As for the display, the Xiaomi 13 won’t let you down. The Xiaomi 13 is said to have a curved OLED display with narrower bezels than its predecessor. It will have a 6.38-inch OLED screen with Full HD + resolution (2712 x 1220 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The display is larger than last year and will have narrower bezels.

The Xiaomi 13 is one of the first phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will bring significant improvements over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which had a few issues. Typer Abhishek Yadav has common Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 specs in a tweet claiming that the Xiaomi 13 could be the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

The code name of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is SM8550. It will be based on TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process. This means that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be much more powerful and efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It will also have 8 CPU cores, including 1 x Cortex X3, 2 x A720, 2 x A710 and 3 x A510 cores. On the GPU side, it will have an Adreno 740 GPU. It will also have a new 5G modem, the Snapdragon X70. This modem is reportedly capable of reaching download speeds of up to 10 Gbps and upload speeds of up to around 3.5 Gbps.

Camera

Now let’s talk about the most exciting part of the Xiaomi 13, the cameras. According to data released by Digital Chat Station last month, the Xiaomi 13 may have two 50MP sensors. This includes the main 1 inch Sony IMX 989 sensor with 50MP resolution. We will also see a 50MP ultra wide angle lens and a macro camera to complete the triple camera setup. There is no information about the front camera yet.

Battery and charging

The battery size of the Xiaomi 13 is still unknown. However, considering the Xiaomi 13 Pro is gaining a larger size (4860mAh), the Xiaomi 13 should pack a larger battery as well. For example, the Xiaomi 12 had a 4,500mAh battery while the 12 Pro had a 4,600mAh battery. Nevertheless, battery life should be amazing, just like last year.

As for charging, the 3C certification revealed that Xiaomi 13 will support 67W fast charging. This is perhaps due to the smaller size of the smartphone. Regardless, it can support fast wireless charging up to 50W and reverse wireless charging.

Software

Xiaomi 13 will run on MIUI 14 based on Android 13. A recent leak has revealed that Xiaomi has tested MIUI 14 on Xiaomi 13 and Xiaomi 13 Pro. MIUI 14 will introduce design changes and improvements to the overall stability of the user interface. Like last year, MIUI 14 will likely be announced alongside the Xiaomi 13 series.

Here is a list of the Xiaomi 13 specs (supposedly):

  • 6.38 inch 120Hz curved OLED display
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset
  • 8 GB / 12 GB RAM + 128 GB / 256 GB memory
  • 50MP (IMX 989) + 50MP (Ultra Wide) + macro camera
  • 4500mAh battery with 67W fast charge
  • MIUI 14 based on Android 13

Xiaomi 13 Price in India

  • Xiaomi 13 could be priced in China at 3,699 CNY. If Xiaomi plans to launch Xiaomi 13 in India, its price could be INR 49,999.

There is no official or leaked information on the price of the Xiaomi 13. However, we can speculate on the price based on previous releases. Xiaomi 12 was launched at the price of 3,699 CNY (approximately 43,657 INR). So we can expect Xiaomi 13 to start in the same price range. As for the price in Europe, the Xiaomi 13 could cost 899 euros. Recall that Xiaomi 12 was launched at a price of 869 euros.

That’s all we know about the upcoming Xiaomi 13. This will be the beginning of the next generation of Xiaomi flagships.
