Ohio, Michigan has a chance to add more knowledge to the competition : Post Mich

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The high-stakes high-stakes matchup between No. 2 Ohio and No. 3 Michigan is fast approaching.

The Buckeyes and Wolverines will play for the Big Ten East title and a spot in the conference championship game, where one of them will be the big favorite to win away from the College Football Playoff.

If The Game goes as expected Saturday at Horseshoe, it will join a long list of memorable moments in the series that date back to 1897.

Here’s a look back in chronological order at some of the best games in one of the sport’s biggest rivalries over the past 50+ years, according to AP sports writer Larry Lage.

In Bo Schembechler’s first coaching game against Woody Hayes, Michigan’s No. 12 defeated the top Buckeyes 24-12 at home. Hayes lamented the loss, saying that the Wolverines under Schembechler had beaten the best team he had ever had. This game was the beginning of what became known as the “Ten Years War”, in which Bo defeated his mentor five times, lost four matches, and ended one match in which he was famously tied.
