Hailey Leaders Support Reducing Cinema Parking Space To ‘Save’ Big Wood 4 | News

Hailey City Council last week passed the first reading of a new parking ordinance that could potentially help bring Big Wood 4’s cinema back to life by reducing parking space required, according to a theater representative.

The multiplex closed in August after nearly two decades of operation for Metropolitan Theaters Corp., which operates over a dozen cinemas across the West, from Aspen, Colorado to Santa Barbara, California.

According to construction engineer Samantha Stahlnecker, who spoke on behalf of property owner Latham Williams on October 24, the closure of the theater was due to years of stagnation in ticket sales, losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and competition from on-demand streaming services such as Netflix.
