Central Michigan vs Northern Illinois Odds, Predictions and Predictions

Neither team has a season to write home about as both sides have identical records of 2-6. With that in mind, our college football betting tips believe that this venue opens up a great opportunity for Chippewas to win the underdog.

The two struggling MAC West teams will be looking for much-needed wins on Wednesday when Central Michigan’s Chippewa visits Northern Illinois Huskies.

Both Chippewas and Huskies enter Wednesday’s game with identical records of 2-6, with both teams catching up last week.

While neither team has made much of an impression this season, there is certainly a team that has shown a bit more in their first eight games, even in losses. We are going to analyze who should be victorious in our varsity football picks on the Central Michigan vs. Northern Illinois on November 2.

Central Michigan vs Northern Illinois betting tips and predictions

Last season, Northern Illinois and Central Michigan competed until last week in the race for the MAC West Division title. The Huskies won the division based on a 39-38 head-to-head win and then took the MAC title. Both teams went bowling and Chippe won the Sun Bowl while the Huskies did not make it to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers in the Cure Bowl.

Both teams fell into tough times in 2022. There will be no division title for any of these schools and even cup eligibility seems unlikely. For two teams with a relatively strong average success history, the season is already a disappointment.

The Chippews could at least hang around some stiff competition. Central Michigan scored 44 points against the Oklahoma State Cowboys to open the season but gave back 58 to lose by two points. The Chippewas had a touchdown in the half against the Penn State Nittany Lions but eventually lost 33-14.

From that initial defeat to Oklahoma State, Central Michigan has been playing quite a solid defense. In MAC, the Chippewas were allowing themselves 29.3 points per game and were relatively solid, letting opponents averaged only 123.1 yards this year. This will be valid for a Northern Illinois infraction that lasts more than 200 yards per game.

Although Huskies were capable of an offensive to some extent, they tried to keep their opponents from scoring a goal. Northern Illinois allows 33 points per game and even a weak opponent such as FCS Eastern Illinois Panthers managed to score 27 points against the Huskies.

Northern Illinois particularly struggled with the pass, passing an average of 268.3 yards per game in the air. It’s unclear who Chippewas will start as quarterback on Wednesday, as Daniel Richardson and freshman Jase Bauer took pictures of Central Michigan’s defeat to Bowling Green Falcons.

Either way, the Husky will have to deal with the threat: Richardson made 13 touchdowns against just four steals, while Bauer is a double threat who ran two touchdowns against Bucknell Bison earlier this year.

Neither team has been good or consistent this year, so there are many likely outcomes on Wednesday. However, the Chippewas have shown more against better teams and have weapons that are most likely to break the game.

This makes Central Michigan the obvious choice here. And although the Chippews are weak, I feel good about taking them for money. Consider Central Michigan and don’t worry about the points – just get the best possible chances of a Chippewas victory.

Spread analysis between central Michigan and northern Illinois

Northern Illinois opened the match as the favorite with 3.5 points, and the line has remained stable since Monday afternoon. This is a dangerous number as it requires Husky to win over goal in a game where I believe Central Michigan has excellent chances of winning right away.

Neither team has played well against the spread this season. Huskies have 3-5 ATS – including 0-3 at home – while Chippewas went 2-5-1 ATS during the season.

There aren’t many of the strengths of these teams, but there is one critical match I talked about a bit above. Northern Illinois has outperformed central Michigan this year, thanks in large part to the ongoing attack, which is 22nd nationally. Top throwers Harrison Waylee and Antario Brown teamed up for over 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

That said, Central Michigan was strong in the fight with opponents averaging only 3.25 yards per race against the Chippewas. That should allow Central Michigan to maintain an advantage in this match. While I recommend taking the money, Central Michigan +3.5 is also a solid bet as it’s a great number to get into what should be a level game.

Central Michigan vs Northern Illinois Analysis above / being analyzed

The total for this game opened up to 56. There has been a slight downward movement since then, but most sites now have their main over / under values set to 55.5.

Northern Illinois have scored in six of their eight games this season, with the final scores ranging from 41 to 84. But in each of their last two games, they have dropped below the total – and below 50 points.

While Huskies were everywhere in their totals, Central Michigan consistently played under that number. With the exception of a penalty shootout against Oklahoma State, Chippewa have not played a game with a total of over 62. This was in their second competition; now they have played six simple games with a total of 55 or less.

Once again, it’s worth noting that mid-state Michigan’s defense pairs well with what Northern Illinois does best, handling the ball. Meanwhile, Chippe averaged just 25.3 points per game on offense, so they are not in the best position to take advantage of Husky’s relatively porous defensive unit, which allows for 33 points per game.

Overall, this duel doesn’t seem to generate a lot of points. Looking at how these teams have played, especially in the last few weeks, Under is a smart game here.
